Common questions

Simple Voice Reader basics.

What file types can I import?

Simple Voice Reader supports TXT, RTF, and PDF import. You can also paste or type text directly into the app.

Can I start from the middle of the text?

Yes. Place the cursor at the point where you want reading to begin, then click Speak.

Can I export audio?

On desktop. Mac exports WAV or MP3. Windows exports MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, or AIFF. The current iPhone and iPad app is for listening and does not export audio.

What is Smart Chapter Export?

On Mac or Windows, enable it before exporting to detect recognizable chapter headings in text or an imported PDF and create a separate, clearly named audio file for each chapter.

What voices are included?

Mac 1.1.1 includes 19 American English Kokoro voices plus selected installed Apple voices. Windows includes American English Kokoro voices plus installed Windows voices. iPhone and iPad version 1.1 includes Apple voices plus an optional Apple-hosted pack of 20 American English Kokoro voices on compatible devices.

How do I get better Apple voices?

Download American English Enhanced or Premium voices in the device's Accessibility settings. Simple Voice Reader shows compatible voices that the operating system makes available.

Is Kokoro available on iPhone and iPad?

Yes. Version 1.1 can download the optional approximately 170 MB Apple-hosted Kokoro pack on iOS or iPadOS 26+ devices with at least 5 GB of memory. Apple voices remain immediately available and serve as the fallback.

Why can Kokoro take longer to start?

Kokoro is a local neural voice engine. First speech can take longer while the model prepares, especially on a busy or slower device. Apple or Windows installed voices are the quickest-start option.

What systems are supported?

iPhone and iPad require iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. Mac requires macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon. Windows requires Windows 10 version 19041 or later, with x64 and ARM64 packages available.

Does support cost anything?
