What the app does
Simple Voice Reader converts user-provided text into spoken audio. Users can type or paste text, import TXT, RTF, or PDF files, and listen in the app. Mac exports WAV or MP3; Windows exports MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, or AIFF. The current iPhone and iPad edition does not export audio.
Local text handling
Text-to-speech conversion with Kokoro and compatible Apple or Windows system voices is performed on the user's device. Simple Voice Reader does not send text, documents, or rendered audio to Walter Claw Software or to a cloud text-to-speech service.
Voice engines
Mac includes local American English Kokoro voices and compatible installed Apple voices. Windows includes local American English Kokoro voices and compatible installed Windows voices. iPhone and iPad version 1.1 includes installed Apple voices plus an optional Apple-hosted Kokoro pack on compatible devices. No public edition uses Microsoft Edge online voices.
Voice asset downloads
macOS, iOS, and iPadOS may contact Apple to download system voice assets selected by the user. Windows may contact Microsoft for operating-system services and voice assets selected by the user. On compatible devices, iOS and iPadOS version 1.1 can optionally download an approximately 170 MB Kokoro pack from Apple; after download, its speech processing remains on the device.
Files selected by the user
When a user imports a file or chooses an export destination, Simple Voice Reader accesses the selected file or folder only for that requested action. Exported audio is saved where the user chooses.
Audio exports
Desktop audio exports are created locally. Mac creates WAV or MP3 files. Windows creates MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, or AIFF files. If Smart Chapter Export is enabled, the desktop app can parse recognizable chapter structure and create separate audio files for detected chapters.
Speech playback
Simple Voice Reader may create temporary local audio data or files for playback. They remain within local app storage and are not uploaded to Walter Claw Software or to a cloud text-to-speech service.
Analytics, advertising, and accounts
Simple Voice Reader does not require an account and does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, or Walter Claw Software analytics that collect the user's text, documents, or listening activity.
