How Walter Claw Software got its name.
Walter Claw Software LLC was founded on March 11, 2026, just after founder Jeffrey Waters began using OpenClaw and gave his agent the name Walter. That first experience made the promise of AI agents tangible, while also revealing practical limitations that better tools would need to overcome.
Jeffrey later adopted Hermes Agent, which became an important part of the company’s early work. Today, he uses OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol through Codex as his sole agent for coding and product development, as well as his personal AI assistant. He still uses Hermes Agent for focused operational work such as home automation.
Even as the tools evolved, the company kept the Walter Claw name it had carried from its first day: a direct link to Walter, Jeffrey’s original OpenClaw agent, and to the hands-on experimentation that inspired the business.
