Choose your platform

One reader, tuned for each device.

Every edition imports common document formats, reads from the cursor, highlights the current word, and keeps speech on the device. Voice engines and export tools differ by platform.

Mac

Kokoro and Apple voices

Version 1.1.1 includes 19 American English Kokoro voices, with Heart as the default, plus selected Apple system voices installed on the Mac.

Adaptive buffering improves long-document playback, Kokoro highlighting follows synthesized timing, and the reader keeps the spoken word visible automatically.

Export WAV or MP3, or use resumable Smart Chapter Export for a book-length text or PDF.

Requires: macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon.

Windows

Kokoro and Windows voices

Bundled American English Kokoro voices work offline after installation. Installed American English Windows voices offer the fastest possible start.

Export MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, or AIFF, with Smart Chapter Export, a playlist, and a manifest.

Requires: Windows 10 version 19041 or later; x64 and ARM64 are supported.

iPhone and iPad

Apple voices plus optional Kokoro

Use the American English Apple voices installed on the device, including Enhanced and Premium voices when available. Playback continues through screen lock with Lock Screen and Control Center commands.

Version 1.1 can optionally download an approximately 170 MB Apple-hosted pack of 20 American English Kokoro voices on iOS or iPadOS 26+ devices with at least 5 GB of memory. Audio export remains desktop-only.

Requires: iOS or iPadOS 17 or later.

Use case

Reading is not always the best way to process text.

Some documents are easier to understand when you can listen, pause, change speed, and keep your place visually as the words are spoken.

Review long documents

Paste a draft, import a PDF, or open a text file and listen through it while the current word is highlighted in the editor.

Control the listening pace

Choose an American English voice, set the speed from 0.75x to 2.0x, pause when needed, and resume from the current position.

Create listening files

On Mac or Windows, export the whole document or let Smart Chapter Export create a separate audio file for each detected chapter.

Features

Focused controls for listening, not clutter.

Simple Voice Reader is intentionally direct: get text into the app, pick how it should sound, listen, pause, resume, or export.

Speak from the cursor

Place the cursor anywhere in the text and start speaking from that point onward.

Real-time word highlight

The current word is highlighted while the text is read aloud so your eyes can track the audio.

American English voices

Mac and Windows include local American English Kokoro voices plus compatible installed system voices. iPhone and iPad version 1.1 includes installed Apple voices plus an optional Apple-hosted Kokoro pack on compatible devices.

File import

Drop or choose TXT, RTF, and PDF files, or paste directly into the text editor.

Readable text controls

Choose a readable font and text size, with light, dark, or system appearance.

Desktop audio export

Mac exports WAV or MP3. Windows exports MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, or AIFF. Both can parse recognizable chapter headings and create individually named files.

Fit and limits

Use it when listening beats staring at text.

The goal is not to replace a full audiobook studio or cloud narration platform. It is a practical reader for everyday documents on the devices people already use.

Good fit

Drafts, research notes, book chapters, PDF handouts, RTF files, plain text files, and any long passage where listening helps you stay with the material.

Not for

It is not a commercial audiobook mastering suite, voice marketplace, or editing timeline. It is a focused reader and exporter.

Privacy posture

Text-to-speech conversion with Kokoro and compatible Apple or Windows system voices is performed on the user's device. Simple Voice Reader does not send text, documents, or rendered audio to Walter Claw Software or to a cloud text-to-speech service.
